When faced with an election ballot having a long list of candidates how does one really know whom to choose? Now going to an even more fundamental question - what are those candidates supposed to be doing if they are elected? . In addition, did those standing for re-election really do what they were supposed to do?

This is where AID's partnership with SNS to work on ensuring transparency in the functioning of elected representatives comes in. SNS comes up with report cards on the performance of MLAs/MPs standing in elections based on information obtained through Right to Information (RTI) and these report cards are widely disseminated through the print and electronic media. In addition to this, SNS also educates people on the roles and responsibilities of these elected representatives and on the RTI act thereby empowering people to demand their rights through the right channels. SNS's work has really empowered people by showing those avenues that they did not know existed and has made elections a more informed, participatory and a meaningful exercise.

SNS partnered with The Times of India and The Hindustan Times to disseminate these report cards in Delhi and The Times of India and Prabhat Khabar in Jharkhand.
